Bridget joined Mako in 2013, in the past five years she’s been one of our most consistent members; always bringing a smile to our face, and telling us great stories about her students, trips, and life. Bridget has lost over 100 pounds since she joined Mako five years ago. Her hard work and motivation inspire all of us to push it harder.

“Around 2 and a half years ago an old friend walked up to me and said “what happened to you!” At that point I realized that it was time to make a change. I joined a regular gym and after 6 months did not see any difference; several people told me to check out a CrossFit Gym.

I went to Mako Athletics and after day one of walking in, I said “HELL YEA”. With me being in my 40’s and overweight, it was not easy; the coaches scaled most of the workouts for me, so I still had a good intense workout. I was having fun!

The whole Mako family helped, especially the coaches at Mako. They do a great job on telling you how you are doing during a workout. The words of encouragement goes further than what people realize. They mean a lot! Now after two years at Mako, I have lost a total of 64lbs. Thank You Mako!”

“I’ve been with Mako Athletics for about a year now and I can honestly say walking through those doors was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had tried getting into shape on my own and while I had made a little progress the results were slow and I seemed to get injured very easily. I started out strictly doing personal training sessions with Kyle and had no intentions of trying the actual classes. I thought there was no way I would ever be fit enough to do those kind of workouts. The PT programing eased me into all of the olympic lifts, gymnastics and strength training and I soon joined the regular classes. I am now in the best shape of my life at 38 years old and I could not have done with out the amazing Mako staff and community. I would recommend Mako's personal training or classes to absolutely anyone regardless of their fitness level. They are not just another Crossfit box, they are the Top of the Fitness Food Chain.”

“I started my CrossFit journey in February 2018. The person who inspired me the most and pushed me to join is my older brother, Martin, who also went to Mako. At first, I wasn’t super consistent but once I started seeing the results and feeling better week by week I began trying to go every day. Currently, I’m at the gym 4-6 days a week. CrossFit has definitely changed my life for the better, I’ve become more healthy and positive. The coaches and members at the gym definitely make it worth coming to class, everyone is extremely nice and helpful. I definitely owe it to them because I wouldn’t have made it this far without them. “10 weeks ago I decided to make a change on my diet. After graduating from College I let myself go a little bit and I wasn’t happy with where I was. I was still working out every day but I felt like my workouts were not as good as I wanted, my recovery was not good either. So I decided to focus on the base of everything- nutrition.

I’ve been doing a diet called “anabolic fasting” which is pretty much intermittent fasting + low carbs throughout the day (eating two big, quality meals with a lot of meats and veggies) and a carb spike right at 8:00pm. It’s been working great for me and I’ve been feeling better than ever. My performance has increased a lot and I feel more energized throughout the day.

I always recommend to members to try different things, what works for me might not work for others. But there is one thing that works for everybody and it’s called CONSISTENCY. If you are consistent at what you are doing- you will see the results you want.”

“Four months ago I decided to have a mind change and really start on the journey to work on my weight loss, strength, and toning; I am working out four times a week consistently. I also started changing my eating habits (cut out sugar, and increased my protein intake, I also eat better carbs- vegetables 😝). 

I have lost 45 pounds and I am now down three sizes, I only have 20 to go and I am super excited! Thanks to the encouraging trainers. Love that they noticed the change that I was going through."

“I started Crossfit not knowing anything about it. Dan actually told me I should try it, then quit himself. I stuck with it because it was very similar to HS weightlifting and I enjoyed the cardio. I started for the main reason of being healthy for my family. My dad’s family has heart issues and him and his 4 brothers have all had open heart surgery or a heart attack. So I knew I had to do something about it. I joined Nov 2015 at 285lbs. I now weigh 245-250, but have gained muscle and dropped 2 pants sizes and 1 shirt size. Oh! and gained 10 inches on my beard.”

“At the beginning of the of the 2018 year, I wanted to make a lifestyle change. I didn't want to go on just a diet but something that was sustainable for a lifetime and I am happy to say I am in the best shape of my life going from ~20% Body Fat to now ~10%. Working out with everyone keeps me motivated and I keep my nutrition SIMPLE. I try my best to eat meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.

I personally want to thank everyone at Mako. I couldn't have stayed as motivated without every one of you pushing me to become a better version of myself. It is why I love my Mako family and am completely grateful to be a part of it!”

“I used to go to the gym for 2 or 3 hours and wasn't seeing anything done and half the time couldn't motivate myself to go anymore. After being introduced to CrossFit by HM, who is known as Mackenley, he was always telling me about his experience at Mako and how he loved it. Saw how fit he was getting and made me think it over and try it out. After hearing good feedback from people who workout at Mako I decided to make that step and try it out.

My experience at Mako has been amazing. I love how cool the coaches are making it comfortable to come in every day. I also love the motivation from other people to finish a workout. Also, I am really excited about my strength, never thought I would hit 315 squatting!”

“I joined Mako in April 2017 after being invited to the Open by Robyn Jones. I was ready for a change in my fitness life and was interested to learn what CrossFit was all about. I’ve always been athletic and enjoyed working out but I found myself becoming bored and frustrated in my traditional gym. I was spending hours working out with little to no progress and I was beginning to feel defeated with my goals.

When I first started at Mako I was intimated by the movements and being surrounded by tons of people that seemed so much more advanced than me. However, the coaches and members quickly helped me relax and see that everyone was in their own place in fitness and that was okay. Being surrounded by a community with so much camaraderie makes working out fun and exciting. Even though everyone has their own goals, they are genuinely excited for you when you meet yours. Growing up I was an athlete and used sports as a physical outlet, upon graduating high school I no longer had these outlets, so I sought something to fill that void and came across Mako. I do my best to make it out five days a week and that’s honestly what I look forward to each day. I love the environment, staff, and members each! mainly because everyone holds me accountable and that drives me to bust my ass and give workouts my all. “I was introduced to Mako back in 2015 and couldn’t have imagined a better place to workout. The community was very welcoming and the coaches were just like me personality-wise, fun, competitive, and all around studs.

I joined because I wanted to change my appearance and be in my best shape possible, in which mako had promised they could make it happen. I trusted the process and what do you know, it worked and has turned into a lifestyle now. I’ve seen a drastic change in my nutrition, sleeping habits, and overall dedication towards anything I do.

Ever since these changes, I have dropped 60 pounds and I am looking to drop 20 more to accomplish my ultimate goal! What makes Mako great for me is the energy everybody brings to the gym and just gets after it! Everybody supports everybody here no matter the circumstance, whether you’re brand new or have been here since the beginning.

There is nothing this gym hasn’t helped me with whether it is school, gym, lifestyle, or just picking me up when I’m down. I’ve made some lifelong friends here and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and the community here at Mako."
