Below is your weekly dose of 4 Thought Friday, a short list of idea’s, thoughts, and experiments from a few members of the Mako Team. Enjoy!

Kaley’s Discovering Nature:

In “Fitness in 100 Words” written by CrossFit founder Greg Glassman, he ends with the sentence, “regularly learn and play new sports.” This weekend I went mountain biking on the trails at UWF. Their “Games Loop” consists of a 3-mile route, 6-mile route, and 10- mile route all designated by a certain color. Kara and I have been mountain biking once before and we completed the 6-mile loop, which was designated by the color purple. After that tough experience, we were sure we wouldn’t be ready for the 10-mile loop anytime soon. Fast forward to this past weekend and we head out on what we think to be the 6-mile loop. The 10-mile loop is designated by the color orange, but we got the colors mixed up and ended up following orange instead of purple and completed the 10-mile loop. The entire time we either thought we were lost or really out of shape since it was taking longer than the last time. When we finally got back to the start and realized we completed the 10-mile loop, we felt so proud and accomplished…and hungry! I was able to take my training outside of the gym and reap the rewards of the hard work I put in every day. There are so many different ways to use your fitness outside of the gym, so I challenge you all to go on those adventures and be proud of how fit you are! By the way, you will find the whole “Fitness in 100 Words” written on the wall at Mako, make sure you read the whole thing!

Scott is Appreciative:

After a long and busy weekend with the Pensacola Beach Brawl. I am overwhelmed with appreciation for all of the people who volunteered to help out. Some people were out there with us for all 3 days. Time (especially on the weekends) is very valuable and that so many were willing to give that up is amazing. It was hot! And at times it was a struggle to stand out in the sun for such long periods of time with very little breaks throughout the day. I had a lot of fun with my group and am already looking forward to next year……. Well……..maybe not yet!

Seth is Being Productive:

I recently purchased an extra monitor (I actually bought a cheap TV with HDMI much cheaper than a true monitor) to hook up with my MacBook so I could have dual screens. This might seem unneeded, and I would have agreed with you had I not tried the setup while working the Navy, and I found it increased productivity 10 fold. For about 100 dollars you can upgrade your desktop or laptop experience.

Kyle’s Listening:

I recently listened on audible to “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World.” Two of the most influential people and close friends His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu talk about their own stories and teaching about joy, recent findings in the science of deep happiness, and the daily practices that anchor their own emotional and spiritual lives. They go into detail about the hardship they both had to go through and discuss how they were able to find forgiveness and joy. Joy is the true path to happiness and their stories will start you down the path of finding your pure joy in life. Enjoy!
